The largest settlement on the island of Cres is the city of Cres with 2,500 inhabitants. It is located in a well-protected bay that contributed to the construction of the marina. There are numerous olive groves, hiking and biking trails around the city. In the past, the old core of the city was surrounded by high walls and you could enter the city through 3 city gates. Narrow and tall houses form a veritable labyrinth of narrow streets.
